Whiplash
This is Dr. Lyle R. Van Hemert of Align Chiropractic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57105. This video deals with one of the most misunderstood conditions in health care in America today, whiplash injuries. It can be one of the most frustrating injuries you go through in your life, especially if you are a young adult.
Whiplash Injury Sudden Back and Forth Movement of Your Neck
The sudden movement of your neck back and forth is a whiplash injury. The medical term is a strain/sprain. A strain/sprain can occur in as low as a 5-mph car accident. This injury is the tearing of muscles and ligaments that hold your neck in place. This can allow the bones in your neck, cervical spine, to move ever so slightly out of position. This can lead to nerve irritation, muscle spasms, and pain. Here at Align Chiropractic in Sioux Falls the treatment we provide is very effective for whiplash injuries, neck pain, because we look for the reason you’re in pain. A whiplash injury is a mechanical injury to your neck and you therefore need mechanical treatment to fix it.
Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries MTBI
MTBI, this is just beginning to become understood in the healthcare field. Just like concussions in football becoming prevalent and better understood, so is MTBI. When your neck is moved violently forward and backwards from a whiplash injury your brain slams into your skull in both the rearward and forward movement. When this happens your brain becomes bruised and injured. This can lead to a host of symptoms such as sensitivity to light, sound, and the ability to concentrate. While you’re under care these symptoms need to be documented. One of the best things a person can do if they have any symptoms is to journal every day on how the symptoms are presenting themselves and how they are affecting their daily living. Here at Align Chiropractic in Sioux Falls we are well trained in documenting these injuries.
Healing Time for Whiplash Injuires and MTBI
The complete healing time for whiplash injuries and MTBI can be quite extensive. In some cases it can be upwards of two years for maximal symptom improvement.
I would encourage you that if you have been involved in a whiplash injury and/or if you have any questions to call us here at Align Chiropractic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57105 at (605) 331 –4220.
