Auto Accident
This is Dr. Lyle R Van Hemert of Align Chiropractic at 3508 S. Western Ave in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This video deals with one of the most common and frustrating health problems in America today, auto accidents.
Frustration/Not Knowing What To Do Next
You’re driving along minding your own business and suddenly you are involved in an automobile accident that you did not see coming. I personally have been involved in an automobile accident where I was rear-ended. The collision comes out of nowhere. I personally did not notice any pain right after the accident but my pain developed a short time later. If you have been involved in an automobile accident you need to have your spine checked out to make sure there is no underlying damage that you may not be aware of.
Can You Really Get Hurt in a Low Speed Collision?
Most definitely you can be hurt in a low speed collision. Most low-speed collisions are at least 5 miles an hour. This may not seem like a lot but when you compare what a car weighs to your weight there is a huge difference. Let’s assume the average car weighs 3000 pounds and the average person weighs 150 pounds. This means the car outweighs you by 20 times. Imagine if a child weighing 30 pounds was knocked over by a man walking 5 miles an hour weighing 600 pounds, the child would get knocked backwards immediately and have a great chance of being injured. This is exactly the same differential between you and the car you are in. You are in essence a ragdoll getting tossed around the inside of your vehicle. So yes, you do need to have your spine checked after all automobile accidents. If you don’t you may end up like many patients I’ve had where they come in several years after an auto accident only to have severe arthritis discovered in their spine because it was not taken care of after the accident.
Can you ever fully recover after an automobile accident?
Getting treatment right after an accident will greatly increase your chances of healing. The current literature on automobile accidents does reach the conclusion that many people will continue to suffer from some type of pain and discomfort after their automobile accident.
Why Chiropractic Care After an Automobile Accident
When you’ve had an automobile accident you had mechanical damage done to your spine by the rapid acceleration/deceleration. Simply put, mechanical damage needs mechanical care to fix it. You would never take medication to fix a mechanical problem. The same is true when you break a bone. You may go the doctor to get pain medicine to help control your pain from the broken bone but the treatment for it is to mechanically reset the bone and then put a cast on it while it heals. Here at Align Chiropractic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota we use gentle mechanical care to help reposition the damaged tissues of your body. Chiropractic care gets to the cause of your condition and does not simply cover up the symptoms as medication would do. Chiropractic care has been shown to be very effective in dealing with automobile accident.
You Deserve to have Your Spine Back to the Condition it was Before the Auto Accident
I have had several of my patients tried to get talked out of getting care for their spine from the insurance adjuster, who represented the person who hit them, just trying to settle the claim quickly. I’ve even had a patient tell me that their insurance adjuster told him well that hurts just take a few aspirins. You are worth more than a bottle of aspirin a month. You simply deserve to have your spine put back in the condition it was before the accident no more no less. Chiropractic care can help provide you with the treatment and knowledge on how to keep your low back healthy. I would encourage you if you have any questions in regards to your spine after an automobile accident to call us here at Align Chiropractic at 3508 S. Western Ave in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at (605) 331 –4220.
